Anjuna Beach

It is 18 kms from Panaji and is a popular beach adjacent to Chapora Fort. Anjuna beach is popular with the younger generation. No Doubt, Beach Anjuna is one of the best beach in Goa. Nearby Anjuna beach there is magnificent Albuquerque Mansion built in 1920 that is flanked by octagonal towers and attractive Mangalore tiled roofs. This is also known as 'Goa Freak capital of the World'.

 

Arambol Beach

It is 50 kms from Panaji and is a unique beach in the North Goa. The beach is both rocky and sandy and at the same time much sought after. It is 16-km-long sea beach. Arambol Beach has a sweet water pond right on the shore. The beach has adequate body surfing and there are several attractive bays at walkable distance. Arambol beach in Goa, India, can be a sheer delight if a person is looking for just the sea, himself and tranquillity.

 

Agonda Beach

It is 37 kms from Marmagoa. The beach is small, picturesque and secluded; and is much sought after for its serenity.

Baga Beach

Baga Beach is a small yet perfect beach located between its two equally famous cousins, Colva on one side and Calangute on the other. It is a serene place to enjoy some private moments if you don't like the hustle and bustle of Colva or Calangute beaches. The beach is ideal for fishing with international tourists marinating in the sun and domestic visitors paddling the boat. The beach mesmerizes the tourists with its brown sand and palm groves which come fairly close to the water's edge. On one side of beach is the Baga River offering a pleasant diversion for children and water lovers. The meeting point of the river and the sea is bordered by a group of black rocks against which the sea crashes in dramatic explosions of spray.

 

Bogmalo Beach

In Bogmalo, the Oberoi's manage the restaurant of Trade Wings. The building stands right on the seashore. As the waves lash the parapets of the open-air restaurant, the drone of the restless Arabian Sea lulls to sleep even the most insomniac. Beyond are mysterious little islands, shipwrecks in the silt and, plenty of pleasant eateries around the hotel, each one of them claiming to be Osibisa's favorite.

 

Benaulim Beach

Benaulim is a quiet and pleasant beach lying at the end of Colva beach. The Benaulim beach is still undiscovered by the domestic tourists which further adds to its charm. Being a fishing beach, it gets fairly crowded in the evenings and on weekends. The Church of St John the Baptist is situated on a hill beyond the village and is worth a visit. On the arrival of the monsoon, Feast of St John the Baptist (Sao Joao) is celebrated as a thanksgiving on the beach. Young men wearing crowns of leaves and fruits tour the area singing for gifts.

 

Candolim Beach

Candolim is the best beach if you want solitary moments from the hustle and bustle of Aguada beach though not offering too much of facilities. There is delicious and quality food complemented by long and straight beach backed by scrub-covered dunes with little shelter.

 

Cavelossim Beach

The soft white sands, the black lava rocks, beaches south of Benaulim where you explore the Cavelossim Beach. This beach is more clean and quiet than most of the famous beaches of Goa. There are numerous beach shacks offering a variety of Goan dishes and seafood at reliable rates. There are several food joints around Dona Sylvia where you can get entire package of good food, liquor and beverages, nice service, and a pleasant service at quite reasonable rates. In addition to it, there are facilities for Dolphin watching at Betty's Place as well as boat trips for Dolphin watching at River Sal.

 

Calangute Beach

It is 16 kms from the capital city Panaji and is the most popular holiday resort in Goa. It is also known as "The Queen of Beaches" and consists of excellent accommodation facilities at the tourist resorts and cottages. It is on the shores of the Arabian Sea of North Goa. The name of the beach is a distortion of the local vernacular word, 'Koli-gutti', which means the 'land of fishermen'. Some connect it with 'Kalyan-gutti', the 'village of art' or 'Konvallo-ghott', the 'strong pit of the coconut tree' as the village nearby is full of coconut trees. It is believed that with the Portuguese invasion, it got distorted to Calangute. Once upon a time Calangute was the most haunted beach all hippies during Christmas celebration when psychedelic hell broke loose. The best time of the year to visit this beach is between the months of September and March.

 

Colva Beach

It is 6 kms from Marmagoa. Colva is one of the most popular beaches in South Goa. This beach is the pride of 'Salcete' and the only rival to Calangute by its scenic splendour. In Colva sand, sea and sky blend in enchanting natural harmony. It consists of excellent accommodation facilities at the tourist cottages. It is evening and weekend days destination for the natives. While driving to Colva from Marmagoa you pass through the large Church of Our Lady of Mercy, Nossa Senhora das Merces, built in 1630 and re-built in the 18th century. It is at heart of the longest unbroken stretch of beach in Goa from Marmagoa to Cabo de Rama. Colva is pleasant and convenient place to stay giving an opportunity to swim safely.

 

Dona Paula Beach

It is 7 km from the state capital Panaji. Dona Paula Beach is an idyllic picturesque spot and gives a fine view of the Zuari River and Marmagoa Harbour. This is an idyllic spot to relax and sunbathe Water scootering facility is very popular at this beach. The beach is near the rocky point between the Mandovi and the Zuari. At the Dona Paula Bay, two of Goa's famous rivers meet the Arabian Sea. The beach is named after Dona Paula de Menezes and is also called the 'Lovers Paradise' due to a myth attached to the place. Cabo Raj Bhavan, the official residence of the Governor of Goa is situated on the westernmost tip of Dona Paula.

 

Majorda Beach

From Bogmalo to down south, there is Majorda beach bellying the Majorda Beach Resort. Majorda is the village where the Jesuits, fond as they were of the good things of life, discovered the best Goan toddy (sap from the coconut palm), which they used to leaven the bread. Naturally, then, Majorda is the place where the Goans were first trained in the delicate art of baking European breads. Threfore, the Majordans are still Goa's best bakers. As per the Goan version of Ramayana, the Lord Rama was abducted as a child and brought up at Majorda. Later, in pursuit of Sita, he camped at Cabo de Rama-a headland further south-where the stretch of developed beaches ends.

 

Miramar Beach

It is 3 kms from Panaji. Miramar is a golden beach of soft sand girdled with palm trees facing the Arabian Sea and is nearest beach from Panaji. It is one of the most popular beaches in Goa. To watch the sunset from Panaji this beach is the best location, only fifteen minute' walk along the Dayanand Bandodker Marg riverfront avenue. The beach is an urban beach where the Mandovi River meets the Arabian Sea. It is not a safe beach to swim because of the strong undercurrent.

 

Palolem Beach

It is also 37 kms from Marmagoa. The beach is situated at west of Chaudi. It is one of the most enchanting beaches, but at the same time relatively deserted. It is situated in the backdrop of Western ghats. It has 1.5 km crescent shaped beach and lies on the southern coastline of Goa amidst outstanding natural beauty. It is fast emerging as a popular spot for day-trippers from Colva and Calangute beach.

 

Vagator Beach

The soft white sands, the black lava rocks, the coconut palms, the lush green landscape, nature playing its own tunes, and the sea turning from aquamarine to emerald green-Vagator overlooked by the 500-year-old Portuguese fort, leaves each visitor dumbstruck. Also, the world-famous Anjuna Beach lies to the south of Vagator. Vagator beach if still rich with rural life. So a large number of fishermen in their traditional attire can be observed on the beach. Beaches of Kerala

Varkala Beach

It is 41 kms from Thiruvananthapuram city. It is a seaside resort as well as an important Hindu cente of pilgrimage. The 2000 years old Sree Janardhana Swamy Temple and the Nature Care Centre are the two main attractions worth visiting nearby the beach.

Thanagasseri Beach

It is 5 kms from Kollam town. The beach stands on the ruins of an old Portuguese Fort and Churches built in the 18th century.

Cheria Beach

It is 45 kms from Ernakulam city. It borders Bypeen Island, and is ideal for swimming. Dolphins are also seen here quite often.

 

Tanur Beach

Situated in Malappura District, it was one of the earliest settlements of the Portuguese. St. Francis Xavier visited the place in 1546. One of the oldest temples in Kerala, Keraladeshapuram Temple dedicated to Lord Vishnu is situated in 3 kms south of Tanur town.

 

Padinharekara Beach

This beach offers a breathtaking view of the confluence of the Bharathapuzha, the Tirur Puzha and the Arabian Sea.

 

Beypore Beach

It lies 10 kms south of Kozhikode city. The beach is situated at the mouth of the Chaliyar River. Famous for the construction of the Uru, the traditional, Arabian trading vessel, it was once most sought after place for merchants from Western Asia, for its ship building industry.

 

Kappad Beach

It is 16 kms from Kozhikode city. Kappad Beach is a historic beach where Vasco da Gama landed on the 27 May, 1498 with 170 men in three vessels.

Puri Beach

One of the holiest pilgrimage centers of India. It is gifted with many fine beaches. The beaches are wide and ideal for beach sports. But due to the violent sea waves, water sports are many a time not favoured.

 

Gopalpur Beach

It is 170 kms from Bhubaneswar, and 15 kms from Berhampur. The beach is fairly isolated and undisturbed by day-trippers. Gopalpur-on-Sea is good for sailing and surfing as well.

 

Chandipur Beach

A divine beach resort of Orissa located 16 kms away from Balasore. Beaches of Maharashtra

Marve, Manori, Gorai Beach

It is situated in North of Mumbai, quite popular among Mumbai's beleaguered fun lovers. Marve low hills along the beach offer extraordinary views of sunrise and sunset. Gorai and Manori, a little further away, are more crowded with revelers and are famous for all night beach parties.

 

Bassein Beach

It was used to be a place for shipbuilding in the beginning of the 17th century. It was here that the Marathas besieged the Portuguese in 1739. The ruins of the Portuguese Fort still stand hidden by brushwood and palm groves. Many Buddhist relics were discovered here and Nalasopara, a nearby place is believed to have been Gautama Buddha's birthplace in a previous life. Bassein is famous for the several beautiful churches designed in Portuguese architectural style.

 

Dahanu Bordi Beach

Dahanu beach is situated in Thane district and is an uncluttered beach. The Dahanu-Bordi is 17 kms long beach. Dahanu is famous for fruit orchards and cuckoos. Udwada, the 'Mecca of the Zoroastrians' with a large, beautiful temple, which houses the sacred fire is also near this beach.

 

Murud Janjira Beach

It is popular beach of whispering casuarinas, coconut and betel palms, and 300-years old fort of Janjira. The shrine of Lord Dattatraya, the three heads representing Brahma, Vishnu and Maheshwara is located in a nearby hillock. The palace of the Nawab and the Janjira caves are must see for the tourists.

 

Mandwa Kihim Beach

It is beautiful beach located 18 kms towards north of Alibag on the north coast. A clear day and sky gives a breathtaking view right up to the Gateway of India. Dr. Salim Ali's favourite hunt, it has woods brimming with wild flowers, rare butterflies and birds. Kolaba Fort is a must see for the tourists.

 

Shriwardhan Harihareshwar Beach

Shriwardhan Bay is irresistible to beach lovers because of its gentle winds, soft sands and inviting waters. 'Peshwa Smarak' located nearby is a must see for the tourist. Harihareshwar is known for its tranquil and picturesque beach.

 

Velneshwar Beach

It is located in north of the Shastri river. This quite and the coconut-fringed beach is ideal for swimming or just relaxing. Velneshwar is famous for the Maha Shivratri fair held in honour of the God Shiva.

 

Ganapatipule Beach

It is known for its serene sedate beach. It is as natural and pristine as ever. The water is blue and the sands, white. It is an important pligrimage centre. 'Swayambhu Ganapati' temple is known for its unique idol of Lord Ganapati.

 

Vengurla - Malvan Beach

This beach is a long stretch of white sands, and hills covered with cashew, coconut, jackfruit and mango groves. It is famous for Shri Devi Sateri temple and the Rameshwar Mandir. Sindhudurg and Padmagad are two famous forts of Malvan

Located in Gujarat at around 288 kms away from Ahmedabad. Across the bridge from Ahmedpur Mandvi, Diu Island comes as a real, pleasant surprise.

It lies just a few minutes offshore from the mainland of Gujarat, yet has retained the feel of an island in the Mediterranean. The beach is white and firm, ideal for walks, and the water perfect for swimming. A variety of Water sports options are on offer-water scooting, skiing, surfing, para sailing, and speedboating.

 

Chorwad Beach

Once the royal summer retreat of the pleasure-loving Nawabs of Junagarh, the imposing Chorwad Palace and the lovely expanse of beach before it combine to make Chorwad unique. Today, Chorwad lays claim to being India's only beach palace resort-the piece de resistance of Gujarat's beaches. Visitors who are interested in swimming usually cross the fishermen's jetty and walk across to another beach where the sea is not as rough as on the seafront spread before the palace. But the majority of visitors to Chorwad are content to let the water lap gently against their toes and surrender themselves to the magical royal quality of the sands of Chorwad.

 

Beaches of Surat

The city of Surat is situated on the bank of river Tapi in the western Indian state of Gujarat. A number of interesting beaches are scattered around the port city of Surat. Dumas (16 kilometers) and Hajira (28 kilometers) are the most popular. The beaches around Surat are 'exclusive'-each one of them a charmed place where it is easy to lose one's heart to seaside sunrises and sunsets of exquisite beauty. Somnath Beach

Home to one of the 12 Jyotirlingas of India, the temple city of Somnath or Prabhas Patan is situated in the state of Gujarat on the Arabian Sea. Just behind the Ahilyabai temple is the Somnath beach with pleasant sands, great sea view, camel and pony rides, coconut stalls, and snack shops.

 

Porbandar Beach

Porbandar is situated along the Arabian Sea in Gujarat. Famous as the birthplace of Mahatma Gandhi, the city is well connected to the other parts of the country by rail, road, and air. Despite its glorious sunsets, fashionable esplanade and delicious sea food in the restaurants, tourist bungalow and hotels running along the sea front, the Chowpatty beach at Porbandar is primarily for those who are not too fastidious about beaches.

Manglore Beach

Suratkal Beach

Suratkal, 15 Km from Mangalore, is an excellent beach with a wide shore to stroll on. Malpe is famed for its silvery beaches that offer breathtaking views of the sea. An idyllic resort for boating, fishing and bathing it lies 10 kms off Udupi and Manipal and around 386 kms from Bangalore. Udupi is at a distance of 60 kms from Mangalore.

 

Beaches of TamilNadu

 

The Beaches of Tamil Nadu are quite famous for their ideal position to view the dawn and dusk in its most natural form. Most popular and frequently visited beaches include the Marina Beach, Rameshwaram Beach and Kanyakumari Beach.

 

Marina Beach

Also called Chennai Beach or the Gateway to the South, and is a 4.5 kms long stretch in Chennai. The must visits situated nearby are Anna and M.G.R. Memorials. It is also famous for the Indo-Saracenic buildings.

 

Rameshwaram Beach

It is an island situated off the mainland surrounded by Palk Strait and the Gulf of Mannar. Rameshwaram is a renowned pilgrim center. According to the epic Ramayana, Lord Sri Rama worshipped Lord Siva here before invading Lanka to redeem his wife Sita from the clutches of Ravana. It is believed that Lord Sri Rama constructed the mythological bridge to Sri Lanka.

 

Kanyakumari Beach

KanyaKumari or Cape Comorin, the multi coloured sand beach is the culmination point of India's land. Bay of Bengal, Indian Ocean and the Arabian Sea surround it. It is also called 'Thriveni Sangamam'. A breath-taking view of the Sun Rise and Sun Set can be seen from here. It is also famous for Gandhi Mandapam and Kanyakumari Amman temple. Amidst the sea of Kanyakumari, a small hillock houses the memorial of Swami Vivekananda.

 

Pulicat Beach

It is saline shallow water spread formed by the confluence of Backwaters, Pullicat Lake and Buckingham Canal. The beach is situated on the northern end of Tamil Nadu. A Dutch cemetery of 17th century is also located here.

 

Dakhinachitra Beach

It is a new venture to showcase the South Indian heritage. A visit to completed first phase of Tamilian heritage is a must see. The complex also houses collections of various materials of arts and crafts of the State.

 

Muttukkadu Beach

It is located 36 kms away from Chennai, the capital of Tamil Nadu. It is an ideal place for rides on motor boats and wind surfing. It is ideal for angling and fishing too. Get set for a good catch.

 

Mammallapuram Beach

It is located at 58 kms from Chennai; It was second capital of the Pallava Dynasty. Mammallapuram flourished during 7- 8th centuries. The pristine glory of the 8th century temple adds splendor to the beach. The monuments of Pallava and the Dravidian Temple Architecture are the main attractions. Recently, United Nations has declared Mammallapuram as one of the 'World Heritage' center.

 

Velankanni Beach

It is the most popular pilgrim center for Catholic Christians of Tamil Nadu. The Church of our Lady of Health is located here.

 

Kodikkarai Beach

It is situated in South of Velankanni bounded by Bay of Bengal on the East and Palk Straits on the South. Kodikkarai Beach is also known as Point Calimere. The Wild Life Sanctuary here spreads in about 333 sq. kms with 25 km of tropical dry evergreen forests. It has different kinds of landmass from marsh to wetlands and backwaters to lake. Many species of flora and fauna are found here.

 

Kurusadai Island Beach

This is an ecological paradise, and is famous for coral reefs and rare species of marine lives such as Dolphins.

 

Vattakotai Beach

Overlooking the sea, it is a circular serene tourist spot located 6 kms from Kanyakumari. It is a beautiful picnic spot and an ideal spot for relaxing between abundant coconut trees.

 

Beaches of Lakshadweep

 

The spell bound expanse of emerald isles, Lakshadweep studded in the blue water of the Arabian Sea unfolds another world in itself. The panorama encompasses magnificent lagoons, sylvan sea shores, miles of sun drenched sand and the enchantment of swaying palms. At the beaches of Lakshadweep it will be coconut canopies that will be your tallest structure in the vicinity. The rich marine life will be your all time favorite neighbors. All these harmonise to form a colourful kaleidoscope typical of an archipelago paradise. This charming isolated destination has only 10 of its islands inhabited. Kavaratti Beach

The headquarter of the Administration, Kavaratti is beautiful calm lagoon and forms an ideal spot for water sports, swimming and basking on warm sandy beaches. The Ajara and Jamnath mosques (of the 52 on the island) have the best wood carving and the former has a particularly good ceiling carved out of driftwood; a well within is believed to have medicinal water. Marine life exhibits can be seen at the new marine aquarium. Kayaks and sailing yatch are available on hire and one can also enjoy viewing the exotic marine life through glass bottom boats.

Kalpeni Beach

Known for its scenic beauty with the small islets called Tilakkam & Pitti and an uninhabited island on the north called Cheriyam. A huge shallow lagoon encloses all of them. A peculiar feature of Kalpeni atoll is the huge storm bank of coral debris along the eastern & south-eastern shoreline. It is believed that huge boulder were thrown up during a storm in 1847. One can swim, reef walk or water sports on kayaks, sail boats, pedal boats. Water sports crafts are available on hire.

 

Minicoy Beach

It is the southernmost island in Lakshwadeep, crescent shaped & has one of the largest lagoons. The island is also very interesting because of its unique Maldivian character.

 

Kadamat Beach

Kadamat is 8 Kms long and 550 m wide at the broadest point. In addition to the beautiful shallow lagoon on the west that forms an ideal spot for water sports, there is a narrow lagoon on the east. The best attractions are the long sandy beaches and the sand banks on the southern tip for sun bath. Kadamat has been identified for staying tourists with its tourists huts aesthetically situated in the coconut palm groves in the beaches facing the lagoon. The place is ideal for a real holiday that brings you away from the maddening crowd, hustle and bustle of city life.

 

Bangaram Beach

An uninhabited island, Bangaram is the only one open to foreign tourists. The teardrop-shaped island has superb beaches and beautiful lagoons. The wealth of coral formation (including black coral) attracts a variety of tropical fish-angel, clown, butterfly, surgeon, sweetlip, snappers and groupers. There are also manta and sting rays, harmless sharks and green and hawkbill turtles. Windsurfing, scuba diving, parasailing, water skiing and snorkeling. Devka is a beautiful and unspoilt beach with a long shore-line situated in the northern part of Daman. There is also a popular amusement park on the beach with multi-coloured fountains. Situated in the southern part of Daman near the Gujarat border, Jampore is the right place for a quiet holiday. The broad and even beach line complemented by the undisturbed solitude and serenity makes Jampore a paradise for the sea-lovers. The shore is most suited for swimming as it is danger free. Fullday sightseeing our Goa - Visit Old Goa, the most important Cathedrals and churches - namely Se-Cathedral, Church of St. Francis Xavier, St. Catherine's Church, Arch of Vice Roy of Goa. Miramar Beach - This is the only beach close to any city and has a good view of the river Mandovi flowing into the sea. Also visit Dona Paula fishing village which is a small village at the tip of Panaji, the place has a very good viewpoint and a monument at the same place.

Day 1 : Cochin - Varkala
Morning drive to Varkala (100 kms).
Upon arrival in Varkala - check into the hotel Taj Garden Retreat. Rest of the day free for own activities.

Morning visit the Portugese church of Anjengo dated to the time of occupation, which maybe the Elanchoros of the geography of Ptomempee (2nd century A.D.). Also visit the English Fort constructed in 1695 A.D. by the English 'East India Company'. Afternoon free.

Day 3 : Varkala - Kumarakom
Morning drive to Kumarakom (100 kms), check into hotel Taj Garden Retreat.
Afternoon visit the superb Bird Sanctuary in adjacent wooded marshland - which boasts of egrets, tree pies, black headed orioles, bee-eaters & a whole host of herons.

Day 5 : Kumarakom - Periyar
Morning drive to Periyar (120 kms), check into hote.l  Afternoon boat cruise on the Lake of the famous Periyar wildlife sanctuary to see wild life. Periyar Lake or reservoir created by a dam on Periyar River is the heart of the Wildlife Sanctuary wild elephants, Asiatic Deer, Black Buck and even Tigers come to shores of the lake for a drink. Thereafter at leisure to explore the neighboring spice market.
